Easy maandazi recipe

 

This is one of the most popular snack in africa that is affordable to a huge percentage of  the population.

INGREDIENTS

2cups all purpose flour
1/4tsp baking powder
6 tsp sugar
lemon zest
2tsp margarine
1/2 cup milk

INSTRUCTIONS

1.In a large bowl  add flour and baking powder.. mix it well then. for better results sift the mixture using a sieve into another bowl


2.After sieving,add margarine then combine together.. this can best be done using clean hands


3.Add the sugar and  lemon zest mix it until everything comes together.then go  in with milk bit by bit  just to get the right consistency


4.knead  it until it's no more sticky on hands and not hard as well.transfer  the dough on a  flat clean surface and continue kneading.. do this for about 10 minutes


5. cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel for about 20-30 minutes  for it  to rise
6.Using extra flour Roll out the dough to the desired size.. then using a knife cut into small pieces of desired shapes.... a cup can be used to achieve round shapes.

7. In a large pan, Heat oil until it's ready..not too hot though.place each dough it groups and fry until  they are  golden brown on both sides.
